Merry Christmas
Hello Family. Well it’s crept back around again. It’s Christmas time again. I’ll try to post the Trees that I see, or as many that strike me. This one is at Tower City, in Downtown Cleveland. There are mechanical men with a wind-up keys sticking out of their backs, also the Twigbee shop is just around the corner, and the Tower City Train. The best thing at Christmas is Christ Jesus. Everything else is just to look at. I’ll be posting more pictures and cards as we get closer to the Holy Day, send me yours or your link.

Cleveland Strangler ? / Imperial Avenue Murders
The community is in shock ! The media was here from all over the world. There were at least 2 to 4 helicopters pinned to the sky, hovering over this grizly location. I thought it would never end. We went to bed that Friday believing that it had ended, after the Cleveland |Police had uncovered 2 badly decomposed
bodies. But as that week went on they kept uncovering more bodies. As the numbers rose the people were more and more in disbelief. Many of the faces I saw on TV were people I know or know of, or had seen somewhere here in town. A Guy I work with witnessed the arrest. Sowell was just walking down the street, like la ti da. As if nothing had ever happened. Another Guy at work knew 4 of the victims. The community is shook up. The women are obviously cautious of the men as we go about our daily lives, especially at night. A serial killer, a modern day "Jack the Ripper," has been caught right here in Cleveland. The air has been filled with fear and sorrow. There's allot of speculation, but we may never know what led this man to commit such brutal macabre crimes. And the look on his face. 11 bodies and a severed single head. Pray for the families, and Cleveland.
I never thought a murderer could bring this kind of attention right to our backyard. You can click on the title to see the news clip. This was horrible. I'm grateful that not 1 family member was involved in this terrible crime. Until next time take care.

Technical Issues Resolved
Swine Flu Info / Take it Seriously
Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist
having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in
institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hospital , Saifee Hospital ,
Tata Memorial etc... Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine
Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical
Centre, Malad (W).
The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is
important for all to know
The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming
into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is
not so much of a problem as proliferation is.
While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1
infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms
and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not
fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced
(instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official
communications).
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any
part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).
3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't
trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/
nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple
gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has
the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected
one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful
preventative method.
4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with
warm salt water.. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti
(very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose
hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in
warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*
5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C
(Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin
C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can.
*Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the
reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat
into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.
I suggest you pass this on to your entire e-list. You never know who
might pay attention to it - and STAY ALIVE because of it.
Until next time, take care.

Family Is Like A Tree
Hello Family, it looks like I'll have to play around with the blog some more in order to send more images. I call this one the "Magnificent Tree." A reminder that the family tree is indeed magnificent like a Magnolia, from roots to branches to leaves. A person connected to God is like a tree planted near fresh water: it will prosper and thrive, permanently connected to a source of life. Until next time take care.

On Vitamin C and Zinc
Antioxidant pills do not prevent metabolic syndrome
SOURCE: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, August 2009.
Published September 04, 2009
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People who want to forestall heart disease and diabetes may do better by choosing antioxidant-rich foods instead of antioxidant supplements, a new study suggests.
Researchers found that among more than 5,200 middle-aged adults, antioxidant supplements had no effect on the risk of developing metabolic syndrome over seven-plus years.
Metabolic syndrome refers to a collection of risk factors for type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke -- including high blood pressure, abdominal obesity, low levels of "good" HDL cholesterol, elevated triglycerides and high blood sugar. The condition is diagnosed when a person has at least three of those risk factors.
The current findings, reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest that taking antioxidants in capsule form may not thwart metabolic syndrome.
On the other hand, men and women who began the study with relatively high blood levels of certain antioxidants -- particularly vitamin C and beta-carotene -- were less likely than those with lower levels to develop metabolic syndrome.
The implication is that even though antioxidant supplements might not cut the risk of metabolic syndrome, antioxidant-rich foods just might, according to the researchers, led by Dr. Sebastien Czernichow of the French national research institute INSERM, in Paris.
Blood levels of vitamin C and beta-carotene are "rather good surrogate markers" of people's fruit and vegetable intake, Czernichow told Reuters Health in an email.
"This reinforces the guidelines for an adequate intake of this food group and goes against the regular use of antioxidant pills," he said.
The study included 5,220 adults with an average age of 49 who were randomly assigned to take either a mix of vitamins C and E, beta- carotene, selenium and zinc in capsule form or inactive placebo capsules.
After an average of 7.5 years, 263 study participants had been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. There was no significant difference in risk between the supplement and placebo groups.
There were differences, though, when the researchers looked at participants' antioxidant blood levels at the studies outset. The one-third with the highest vitamin C levels had about half the risk of metabolic syndrome as those with the lowest levels.
Similarly, the third with the highest beta-carotene levels had only one-third of the risk of metabolic syndrome as those with the lowest beta-carotene concentrations.
In contrast, higher zinc levels in the blood were linked to an increased risk of metabolic syndrome. It's not clear why this is, but the researchers speculate that high zinc levels might, in some people, reflect heavy consumption of red meat -- one of the prime food sources of the mineral.
Good food sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, strawberries and cantaloupe, and vegetables such as red peppers, broccoli and tomatoes.
Beta-carotene, which is converted in the body into vitamin A, is found in foods such as carrots and sweet potatoes, and leafy greens like spinach and kale.

Eat your vegetables and take it easy on that red meat. Until next time.

When someone close to you has gout, you probably want to know what to do for him or her. No one can give you advice that will be appropriate for all people with gout, but here are some general facts about the condition that may help you understand the experience and provide support:
A gout “flare” (attack) usually strikes suddenly, at night, in one location (usually the large joint in the big toe). During the attack, the joint becomes hot, red, swollen, and extremely tender.
The pain of a gout flare can be excruciating—it has been compared to childbirth or bone fractures—and is worst in the first 24 hours.
Gout symptoms can be triggered by stress, alcohol, certain medicines, or the presence of another illness.
Even without treatment, the symptoms usually go away within 3 to 10 days, and the next attack may not occur for months or even years, if at all. However, over time attacks can be more severe, last longer, and occur more often.
The primary risk factor for gout is a high level of uric acid in the blood—a condition called hyperuricemia. Uric acid is a natural byproduct of the body's metabolism. But if too much uric acid is produced, or if the kidneys don't eliminate enough of it, it can deposit needle-like crystals in the joints and other tissues.
The pain of gout attacks is caused when these uric acid crystals are deposited in connective tissue and/or in the fluid that cushions the joint (the synovial fluid), producing irritation and causing the body to respond with painful inflammation.
Gout attacks are more likely to reoccur when uric acid levels are elevated. Uric acid levels can be measured through simple blood tests. Ask your healthcare provider.
Although it's true that certain foods and alcoholic beverages contribute to the body's pool of uric acid, these are two among many factors related to hyperuricemia.
Over time, gout can progress and cause damage to joints, potentially leading to disability. However, with proper treatment, most people with gout are able to control their symptoms and the progression of the disease.

Breakfast At McDonald's
This is a good story and is true, please read it all the way through until the end! (After the story, there are some very interesting facts!):
I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree.
The last class I had to take was Sociology.
The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with.
Her last project of the term was called, 'Smile.'
The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.
I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake, literally. Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald's one crisp March morning. It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not move an inch... an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was 'smiling' His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance. He said, 'Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation. I held my tears as I stood there with them. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, 'Coffee is all Miss' because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm). Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes. That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray. I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you..' I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you. God is here working through me to give you hope.' I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, 'That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope..' We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give. We are not church goers, but we are believers. That day showed me the pure Light of God's sweet love. I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand. I turned in 'my project' and the instructor read it. Then she looked up at me and said, 'Can I share this?' I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class. She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God share this need to heal people and to be healed. In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald's, my son,the instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student. I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn: UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE. Much love and compassion is sent to each and every person who may read this and learn how to LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS - NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE. There is an Angel sent to watch over you. In order for her to work, you must pass this on to the people you want watched over. An Angel wrote:Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart To handle yourself, use your head..To handle others, use your heart. God Gives every bird it's food, but He does not throw it into its nest. A box of gold *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* With a secret inside that has never been told *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* This box is priceless but as I see *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The treasure inside is precious to me *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Today I share this treasure with thee *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* It's the treasure of friendship you've given me. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
This small treat makes me think about two things. All that is pure, and all that is of good report. Until next time, take care.

Do you have the Gout ?
The importance of vitamins and minerals cannot be stressed enough, healthy cells are vital to uric acid maintenance within the blood supply. They are essential to all living things as a source for vitality, cell protection & metabolism, and health in general. With few exceptions, vitamins are primarily not manufactured by the body so they must be obtained through diet and dietary supplements. Unfortunately, obtaining enough through our diet has become increasingly difficult. This is true for several reasons:(1) Poor food choices by the typical diet that do not contain nearly enough vitamins that the body requires.(2) Many of our food choices come from processed selections which hold very little if any nutrient value and often times contains more harmful substances than any of the good micro nutrients that should be naturally found in them.
(3) Many cooking methods like frying or high direct heat cooking (microwaves, grill, broiler) actually leach the vitamins from the food and from the body as well. These methods can actually cause chemical altering of the food's original state and even add unwanted substances to the body.(4) Our once nutrient rich soil in which our food grew in has been altered by chemicals such as pesticides and other outside environmental sources also adding to the lack of available nutrients within. Our crops are chemically forced to grow faster but not better. Many are picked before they are ripe and then forced to appear ripe with unconventional methods instead of ripening on their own naturally.Granted you will still obtain trace amounts of vitamins and minerals from the diet, and even more if you are more careful with selection and cooking methods, but with the above factors it is that much more important that you provide the body with another source from a dietary supplement.Uric acid is created by the foods we eat at a rate of about 30 to 40%. The rest is created by cellular degeneration. Cells break down for several reasons. For one they simply naturally die and another is a failure to have enough vitamins and minerals available to form properly. They end up breaking down at a faster rate than they actually should. This is why gout becomes more prevalent as we get older and our cells are dying at faster rates. The older we get, the faster cells break down and the more physical problems we tend to have. With some antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and herbs we can slow the natural process down a bit resulting in less uric acid production and an increase our cells and cell life. We are all going to get old, that is inevitable, but we can control whether we age slowly with good nutrition and then quicker just the last few years or age faster and have many many years of poor health loaded with bottles upon bottles of prescription drugs in our cabinets.
Heed this if you are prone to Gout, It had me calling Jesus that day !
Until next time, take care .

Beware of Credit Card Scams
Snopes.com says this is true. See this site - http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA', and I was called on Thursday from 'Master Card'. The scam works like this: Caller: 'This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona ?' When you say 'No', the caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?'You say 'yes'. The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security.'You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?'Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card'. He'll ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers'. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card.. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?' After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do, and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card.Long story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call V ISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a 'Jason Richardson of Master Card' with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! Mother's Day Humor
The father of five children had won a toy at a raffle. He called his kids together to ask which one should have the present. "Who is the most obedient?" he asked. "Who never talks back to mother? Who does everything she says?" Five small voices answered in unison. "Okay, dad, you get the toy."
I laughed at first, but then I thought to myself who was the most obedient?
Enjoy the Day ! Until next time

I was reading a family health and wellness site when I ran across this article. How Teenage Rebellion Has Become a Mental Illness Health & Wellness (tags: children, disease, drugs, ethics, family, government, news, protection, warning, study, risks, research, illness, society )
For a generation now, disruptive young Americans who rebel against authority figures have been increasingly diagnosed with mental illnesses and medicated with psychiatric (psychotropic) drugs. I remember when you would get your hind parts torn to shreds and all trouble would be over forever! Whatever happened to that?

Tyree FYI Weekly
World's oldest person turns 115 in California. That's right Ms. Gertrude Baines has literally forgotten more than most of us ever will remember. She was 18 when the Titanic sunk. She says "she owes her longevity to God." She never drank, smoked or "messed around." God Bless you Gertrude Baines and Happy 115th Birthday! She wants to live 4 more years so she can vote for Obama a second time.
Best Bumper Sticker was sighted in Shaker Heights it simply read "Get Corporations Off Welfare". Well I got a kick out of it.
Easter Scripture John 3:16
Maybe you would like to submit for Tyree FYI Weekly, so send me your stuff. Until next time, take care.

Article on Cancer
This is great nutritional information. We need fresh good (LOTS OF VEGGIES)! We need to take care of these bodies that God has given us. He did an amazing job creating them, the least we can do is feed them properly! Love ya!
Excellent article on cancer.
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY .
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins:
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's amino's or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to no urish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life. There is a link to the left also, entitled A World Without Cancer. Until next time take care and eat your vegetables and apricots!

Black History Continued: Black First in Politics
The first Black elected to the U.S. Senate by popular vote was Edward W. Brooke (Republican, Mass.), who won the general election on November 8 1966.
The first Black in the House of Representatives was Joseph H. Rainey of South Carolina, who was seated on December 12, 1870.
The first Black congressman from the North and the first Black congressman in the modern era was Oscar DePriest, who was elected to the 71st Congress from Illinois' First Congressional District (Chicago) in November, 1928. He was sworn in on April 15, 1929.
The first Black Democrat elected to Congress was Authur Mitchell, who defeated DePriest on November 7, 1934.
The youngest Black congressman was John R. Lynch of Mississippi, who was elected to the House in 1873 at the age of 26.
The first Black to head a congressional committee was Blanche K. Bruce, who was made chairman of a select committee on Mississippi River levees in the Forty-fifth Congress (1877-79).
The first Black to head a standing committee of Congress was Rep. William L. Dawson of Chicago, who was named chairman of the House Expenditures Committee on January 18, 1949. Rep. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was named chairman of the powerful House Education and Labor Committee in 1961.
The first Black to preside over a national political convention was John R. Lynch, who was elected temporary chairman of the Republican convention in June, 1884.
The first Black keynoter of a national political convention was Republican Congressman John Roy Lynch, speaking to the Republican National Convention in 1884. On the first day of that convention, he was also elected as a National Convention Chairman. In addition, he served as the Chairman of the Mississippi Republican National Committee for most of the 1880s and was a delegate to 5 successive Republican National Conventions.
The first Black to be a keynoter at a Democratic National Convention was Barbara Jordan in 1976. This was significant because of where she was making the address; that is, at the National Convention for the Democratic Party, which had for the first century and a half of its existence been the party first of slavery, then black codes and then Jim Crow segregation.
The first Black nominated for president at a major national convention was Rev. Channing E. Phillips of Washington, D.C., who was a favorite-son candidate of the District of Columbia and received 67 1/2 votes on the first ballot (August 28, 1968).
I'll try to find more, Even I was astounded. Until next time.
